Chapter 7b and 7c

Chapter 7b

The beginning of chapter 7 talks about high-stakes assessments. They are assessments that have a lot riding on them for the teachers or for the schools. These are bad for students and schools because they do not necessarily reflect every thing that a students knows. With that being said these tests can be used as an effective way to gauge students learning and progress. These tests are okay as long as they are not used in high stakes situations. When I am a teacher I will make sure not to pit too much emphasis on one single test.

One of the things focused on in this section of the chapter is how to properly assess essay questions. I think that this is really important because often times teachers don;t realize they aren't giving an accurate assessment. When giving essay questions one of the most important things a teacher can do is allow enough time for the students to answer properly. When I am a teacher I will be sure to give fair essay assessments when I do give them.

Blog 6c and 7a

Chapter 6c

Lesson planning is obviously one of the most important aspects of being a teacher. Through my current education I have learned a lot about lesson planning and how important it is to be organized and have strong objectives. In the middle school classroom especially, it is important to have organized lesson plans. Even though the organization is important I will also make sure to be flexible on a day to day basis because helping the students is the most important thing.

Chapter 7a

The three ways to asses students are a good basic rule for teachers to follow. Assessment is one of the most important aspects of being a teacher but can also be one of the most difficult. Assessing writing is also very important and this chapter talks a lot about it. It is important to have a set rubric for grading writing and not just grading it subjectively. The chapter says that it is also important to read everything a student writes and get familiar with their writing style, this will make it easier to grade. I will use careful grading of students writing in my middle school classroom.

Chapter 5 b and c

In this chapter I thought the dealing with controversy section was very interesting an important. It is impossible for a teacher to avoid controversial issues all together, however they can take steps to control what is talked about in their classrooms. At the same time, students are developing their own values and morals and value a teachers opinion on certain topics. As a teacher you should never speak before thinking on these topics. One thing that I will make sure I do in my classroom is to let the students hear all sides of an issue. It would be very unfair for me to just push my own views, I need to let the students decide on their own.

This section of the chapter begins by talking about the cognitive domain hierarchy. That hierarchy goes: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. This is very important in understanding how your students learn. When I am a teacher I will be sure to use this hierarchy to build students knowledge. One of my favorite things in this hierarchy is that they build on each other, if students don't have the knowledge and comprehension levels, they will not be able to reach the synthesis and evaluation.
